61-Year-Old Vietnam Vet Becomes College Football Team's Oldest Kicker

If you want to talk about someone refusing not to give up on a dream of
playing college football, look no further than Faulkner University's Alan
Moore. Moore is a 61-year old Vietnam veteran who is set to make the roster
for the Eagles' newest yet oldest kicker in team history.

Moore is no stranger to kicking as his college football quest began in 1968
when he kicked for Jones Community College (Mississippi). Unfortunately, his
playing days were cut short as he headed off to Vietnam for an 11 month tour
in the U.S. Army infantry.

When Moore returned stateside, he did not enroll back to Jones, rather, he
found refuge working for a construction company. Fast forward 42 years
later, Moore began looking to revive his itch to return to the gridiron.
Despite having eligibility to play, NCAA sanctioned schools did not see it
that way so Moore had to look elsewhere. He discovered he had eligibility to
play for an NAIA school as long as he got a waiver.

Montgomery, Alabama's Faulkner University (a Christian university) offered
Moore the opportunity to transfer and to kick. Moore did not disappoint.
Though the official roster has not been released, as of today, expect to see
Moore and the Faulkner Eagles take the field September 10th in a showdown
against religious rival Ave Maria (Florida). Moore is certainly an
inspiration for anyone chasing that dream.

I would try out for the Vandal football team. But I suffer from an old
recurring football injury . . . hemorrhoids from sitting on the bench.

Seeya round town, Moscow.
