Dear Visionaries,
Attached is a pdf of a presentation I gave to the UI Dpt of
Ag Econ and Rural Soc on May 27. In it I compared Idaho's economic structure
to the U.S. and to Colorado. I also include a recent analysis by Michael
Porter.
My conclusions are: Idaho is growing a lot of low-wage
low-skill jobs that pay about the national average and it is losing (or
growing slowly) high-wage high-skill jobs that pay significantly less than
the national average.
The result is a $10,000 to $12,500 / worker average wage gap
that is growing relative to U.S. and Colorado respectively. This amounts to
about a loss of $6.5 billion in wages per year (-$10,000 x 650,000 workers).
