Limericks (authors unknown) . . .

---------------------

A calling as if from above?
A damsel as meek as a dove
For to serve, in knight's armour,
Lest man or beast harm her?
That's chivalry's chaste courtly love.

---------------------

A medieval conventional code,
Courtly love set the rules of the road:
What a lady could do,
And what things were taboo,
Whether wooed by a prince or a toad.

---------------------

Ancient Grecians—they knew, from the start,
It's a flower that speaks to the heart,
So they made an elixir—
A love-problem fixer.
That's why the plant's called Cupid's dart.

---------------------

Courts of love: Did they truly exist?
Ladies meeting to rule on a tryst?
Was her honor besmirched?
Should the scoundrel be birched?
A poetic conceit. (Case dismissed.)

"Nothing takes the taste out of peanut butter quite like unrequited love."

 - Charlie Brown (Charles Schulz)
