[Vision2020] Fw: Mr. Paul’s Discredited Campaign

I think it was Paul R. (not to be confused with the candidate) earlier in this thread who discussed the important issue of citizen rights in states that would most certainly choose curtail them if they could. In the current clamor to demolish the federal government and its accouterments and return power to the states, that is a critical piece for me. All rights and even some privileges should belong to all citizens. A woman’s right to choose may be one of the more contentious issues that either should belong to all American women or denied to all American women regardless of where they live or exercise their medical options. Ron Paul and all the other Republican presidential candidates express a desire to overturn Roe v. Wade and return such issues to the separate states. Would they also do that for other federal civil rights laws? It’s fair to assume that Paul, based on his earlier behavior, might be quite willing to have it that way. Those who support him for his willingness to curtail federal activity should not lose sight of his willingness to concede to the individual states options that we, as citizens of our nation, should continue to share even as we go from state to state.

A cogent and thoughtful response. Thank you.

Paul

The state's rights v. federal rights is an issue that has been argued without resolution for over two centuries. There is little I could add to either side.

However, one big argument against granting states more power is the current and recent Idaho legislature and Governor. Ignorance and arrogance rule, not thoughtful fact finding, evaluation of values and consequences, and thoughtful, objective consideration.

On the other hand, we're financially better off as a State than a lot of other ones are. I would rather the decisions that affect me are made closer to home, so I can have a better chance of influencing the outcome.

Ron Paul vetoing everything that in his opinion is unconstitutional would make the present Washington gridlock look like a freeway. We are facing enormous, very difficult problems. We need thoughtful consensus builders, not crackpot idealism driven barricaders. Paul doesn't seem to understand that the global scene is full of dog eat dog predators which must be understood and dealt with in our national interests.

I'd say that "crackpot idealism" is what we need more of right now. Did you know that in Feb of 2010, when certain provisions of the Patriot Act were about to expire, that the legislation that extended it another year was added on as a rider on another bill (something about medical doctors, I can't remember) and was voted on by voice vote? You'll find that there is no record of who voted for or against this legislation, because no roll was taken. The Ayes were louder than the Nays, and no Congressman had to explain to other Congressmen why they were soft on terrorism or to their constituents about why they thought their rights meant little.

If Ron Paul can put a stop to that, then it's worth the headaches in my opinion.

I'm open to other options to stop this kind of thing, but right now Ron Paul is about all we have.

    Paul
