PRESS RELEASE
City of Moscow to assess penalty fees for untagged extra garbage set outs above subscribed service levels

December 27, 2011 (Moscow, Idaho) - Starting in early 2012, the City of Moscow will begin assessing penalty fees for untagged extra garbage set outs (garbage cans and bags left at the curb for pick up) above subscribed levels. The City of Moscow, through Latah Sanitation, Inc., will utilize on-board computer systems installed in collection trucks to assure that users are being charged appropriately for their garbage collection service levels.

Residents are reminded that the City of Moscow Sanitation rates consist of two components. A base fee of $11.85 per month and per can fee of $6.65 per month. Residential customers interested in setting out cans or bags for collection are required to sign up for the weekly service by contacting the City of Moscow Utility Billing office at 208.883.7043. Occasional set outs or extra volume above the individual's subscribed level require garbage tags. These bright yellow/green garbage tags may be purchased at City Hall Utility Billing (206 E Third Street), Moscow Food Co-op, Rosauers, Safeway, and WinCo for $1.70 each.

All untagged cans/bags, over full cans and extra volume above the subscribed level, will be assessed an additional fee of $6.40 per occurrence.

Latah Sanitation, Inc. has been leaving notices requesting customers to mark addresses on garbage cans in areas of the City where addresses are not readily in view, such as alleys or group set outs. Marking garbage cans will help prevent additional charges being incorrectly assessed for extra volume.
