I'm happy to answer your nit.  I didn't know it.  I surmised it by the fact
that you didn't mention the time in your posting.  If the cops stopped by my
house at an unreasonable time, I would say something along the lines of
"They came by at 3am, rousted me from bed..."

And, hold onto your seat, but I happen to agree with most of your comments
below.
