So . . .
Instead of leaving security of the UI campus in the professionally well-qualified hands of the Moscow Police Department, at a cost $100,000/year below the previous MPD contract, UI is going to pay Allied Barton (a company reported to be highly unethical) $391,000/year for the next several years (it's a multi-year contract) to walk the streets of the UI campus and call the cops (MPD I'm assuming) if they witness a crime, without initiating any action.
And the training required before an Allied Barton employee can "pin on the badge": Eight (8) hours of on-the-job training (locate the UI library, SUB, and Idaho Commons on a map) followed up with annual four-hour refresher courses (in case new facilities are built and/or the price of latte' at the Commons goes up).
