A new refinery is proposed to be built in North Dakota that would process
Canada's tar sands product:

No new oil refineries have been approved in the United States since 1976.
But last week, three federal agencies issued a final environment impact
statement for a 13,000-barrel per day clean fuels refinery proposed by the
Three Affiliated Tribes for a site near Makoti. The proposed refinery would
process pre-refined oil from Canadian tar sands into gasoline, diesel, jet
fuel and propane.

One of the few active proposals for a new oil refinery in the U.S. is in
North Dakota, where the refinery would be located on the indigenous lands of
the Three Affiliated Tribes (Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara) on the Fort
Berthold reservation. Triad, Inc. is pushing for development of this
refinery. Local residents are bravely resisting this and need financial
support. North Dakota is supposed to be the "Saudi Arabia of wind" -- not
Saudi Arabia! Area residents already suffer from severe coal plant
pollution. This proposed oil refinery would be the first to be built without
any air pollution permits!
