[Vision2020] More Evangelical Christians are Getting It

Have you ever heard the old saying "Old sins cast long shadows" uttered in the context of certain religious leaders and their close aides.

I'm guessing that in a few months we will see a very amusing (at least for some of us) instance of what this saying is about with respect to Wilson, and perhaps one of those in his inner circle (who left his last job under a cloud of habitual sexual misconduct).

Art or Wayne or whoever you are. I did not think that was the only thing they shared. The thought never entered my mind. I didn't even mention Phelps. But I guess I'm glad you're getting to rant.

Well then I'll be sure to keep in mind that no matter what Wilson or Phelps say or do, even if you didn't read the book, or know what they said in a conference, or in a speech they gave, that you'll draw judgment, because you know their hearts, and I just won't say anything, because it'll be useless.

If you think that hatred and condemnation of gays is all Fred Phelps and Douglas Wilson share, think again.

They both start their fundamental theological positions from, and both are unrelenting, apodictic, full-doctrine Calvinists.

Tom Hansen is quite correct. Both Wilson and Phelps make their positions prodigiously available on the web, and in Wilson's case, destroy whole forests with crackpot tracts from his vanity press. The preachings in some of these tracts are at wide variance with some of Wilson's own behavior. He is a liar and hypocrite in these and other matters.

As far as visiting Christ Church: I don't have to swim in a cesspool to know what it is. In addition, I hate seeing sheep fleeced during a blizzard, and then led to slaughter.

Evangelical Christians are getting it? There is nothing for Christians to get in that area. The Bible is explicitly clear concerning homosexuality.

I Cor. 6:9-10 "Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God."

I Tim. 1:9-11 "understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine, in accordance with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God with which I have been entrusted."

These verses are pretty self-explanatory (whether you agree with them or not). So Christians that are beginning to accept homosexuality are going against their own faith. I'm sure you would say that people are entitled to believe whatever they want, and while you obviously don't agree with Christianity very much, it should be pointed out that those "Christians" in the gay parades are the ones not getting it. Christians should treat them just like murderers, enslavers, liars etc. Christians preach against it, pray for them, and minister to them, just like murderers etc. No bigotry here. But that's obviously not how you see it.

Art- You sure draw a lot of conclusions and create a lot of conspiracy theories by not attending the conference or visiting the churches you attack.

In spite of Christ Church's gross perversion last week (the "Sexual
Orthodoxy" ministerial conference), it heartens me to continue to come
across more and more Evangelical Christians who really are getting it.

        A Step in Faith
Evangelical Christian Brent Childers explains his journey from believing
that homosexuality was an abomination to marching in a pro-gay march on
        Washington.

"There are many, many others I have met in my work with Faith in America, as
we try to bring awareness and understanding to the pain and trauma caused to
LGBT people, especially youth, when church teaching is misused to justify
and promote a societal climate of rejection, condemnation, and
discrimination. . . Every person coming to Washington-whether they are
religious or not-does share one faith, and that is faith in America. We can
and must do better. As the progress of history has shown, Americans will
prove themselves able to see beyond religion-based bigotry to the promises
of equal treatment for all. Those who use religion-based bigotry to
persecute and discriminate against LGBT people are on the wrong side of
history, just as they were with slavery, interracial marriage, the treatment
of women, and so many other issues."
