I have worked with Dean Pitman as a student leader for several years in the past. He is a well intentioned person. He doesn't deserve public or personal scorn.

Here, here, Wayne!

I've known the Dean of Students for a very long time.

I think you are WAY OFF BASE on your accusation below.

He is just not that kind of man!

Carl,

I agree with you about doing away with football, fraternities and sororities, short of that, how about STRICT sanctions?

Currently 2 kids are in the "U of I Wing"  of Harbor View Medical center having fallen out of windows! And now this happens!
We don't have all the facts yet, such as: "Was he alone in the car or were other team members involved?" Were they sober?
And for God sake, peeing in the drive thru lane of Jack-In-The-Box? Is this what we currently spend scholarship money on?

How about taking away the scholarship and suspending the individual from the University for a couple of years?

Maybe IF the Dean of Students worried more about the students and less
about fleecing the University employees with the insurance fund and "wellness fee" the STUDENTS would be better off,
and so would the community!

Wayne, granted this is not good news.  But to be honest, if you read sites like ESPN on a daily basis, as I do, you'll know that these things happen everywhere.  Every university, every football program, no exceptions.  It recently happened to a Boise State player, it's happened 8 miles away at WSU, it's happened at the University of Washington, and the list goes on.  There are over 100 players on a Division 1 football team, between the ages of 18-22, and the coaching staff can't watch over them 24/7..  Perhaps we should eliminate football.  Perhaps we should eliminate fraternities and sororities because of recent incidents.

UI football player faces DUI charge
October 5, 2009, 2:30 pm

A University of Idaho football player was arrested early Sunday morning for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and was also cited for urinating in public.

Moscow Assistant Police Chief David Duke said an officer observed freshman tight end Clayton Homme, 18, of Kennewick urinating while waiting in the drive-through line at Jack in the Box shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday.

The officer then observed Homme get back behind the wheel of the vehicle which eventually led to Homme’s arrest for the DUI.

Homme pleaded not guilty at his arraignment at the Latah County Courthouse on Monday and a pretrial hearing is set Oct. 13 at 2:30 p.m.

The arrest came after the Vandals’ 31-29 win over Colorado State University on Saturday evening.
