[Vision2020] are you interested in having backyard chickens?

Wayne,

I have been the a**h**e that had to do it to a few men also. :(

What's worse, if you have to have contact with them. But as long as you follow universal precaution procedures you are usually fine except for a few rare viruses. My blood is very, very clean, and I have come into contact with people with almost every know common virus in the northwest. I have an excellent immune system as well.

It is pretty hard thought to contract an illness directly from a chicken if you wash, and wear a condom. :P

Selina,

ALL of them can transmit to people and other animals. Thats why those particular diseases must be reported to the appropriate health authorities if found.
I'm wondering what type of oversight will be in the local legislation to have the chickens "inspected" as safe by a vet, and who will enforce it.

And Donovan, the government  CAN quarantine people that have certain diseases, illnesses and infections.

I'm not an epidemiologist or biologist.  How many (if any) of the poultry diseases Wayne P. listed can actually be transmitted to people (or even other non-avians)?

"Just what we needed! Allowing  animals in the city limits that carry, among other things . . . "

Yeah, but you cannot just kick people out the city because they have illness or infection.

Just what we needed! Allowing  animals in the city limits that carry, among other things:

Fowl Typhoid
Avian Influenza (bird flu)
Newcastle Disease (END)
Avian chlamydiosis
Avian encephalomyelitis
Infectious Laryngotracheitis (ILT)
Duck hepatitis
Fowl Cholera
Egg drop syndrome
Goose parvovirus infection (DerzsyÂ’s disease)
Turkey viral rhinotracheitis or swollen head disease in chickens

Too bad they don't smoke, then the Gang of 7 would have been all over banning them!
Thank God for elections!
