PRESS RELEASE
November 10, 2009
Gritman Medical Center Mock Disaster Exercise
On Thursday, November 12, 2009 the Moscow Police Department will be
participating in a large scale practical training exercise at Gritman
Medical Center. There will be regular uniformed officers and tactical
officers working directly with deputies from Latah County, Moscow Fire,
and EMS personnel. These emergency responders will be visible around
the south and east side of the hospital between 11:30 am and 5 pm. The
opportunity to work with Gritman Medical Center and other first
responders in a disaster scenario will benefit all involved. c
During this event the public may see officers entering and leaving the
building as they work through the events outlined by our exercise team.
Some of the officers will be carrying weapons and responding as in a
real emergency. Anyone listening to a police or fire scanner will also
hear radio traffic that is not typical. Each radio transmission will
begin and end with the phrase "this is an exercise".
Releasing this information is one additional effort to notify our
community about this exercise in an attempt to keep a passing observer
who witnesses these activities from perceiving a tragic event has
occurred at the hospital. Direct actions have been taken to notify
businesses and residents around the hospital of this exercise.
Police, Hospital, Fire, and EMS services to the public will continue
throughout the exercise without disruption. There should be no
disruption of traffic in the exercise area.
