POPaganda: The Art & Crimes of Ron English

*POPaganda: The Art & Crimes of Ron English* is a film about the
culture-jamming and billboard-liberation antics of Ron English. The modern
day Robin Hood of Madison Avenue, Ron paints, perverts, infiltrates,
reinvents and satirizes modern culture on canvas, in songs, and directly on
hundreds of pirated billboards. Shot entirely guerilla-style, the film
chronicles the evolution of an artist who offers an alternative universe
where nothing is sacred, everything is subverted and there's always room for
a little good-natured fun.

LinkTV is running a great documentary about Ron English, with video of many
of his billboard/art/vandalism works (and his art works, in art gallery
shows), video of the actual event of covering the billboard.  The examples
in this documentary mostly or always involved the entire billboard being
covered with an already completed art work that is placed on top of the
original, with wall paper "glue."  In one case a billboard was covered with
a huge picture of a clothes hanger.  This documentary shows a totally nude
women climbing up in front of this billboard, way off the ground, then she
somehow released a huge amount of what was meant to look like blood, as she
collapsed in a scream... The documentary also shows English putting up a
billboard with a picture of what is supposed to be Christ on the cross, with
the text, "Let's Get Drunk And Kill God."  English narrates how he knew that
when this billboard went up, trouble was likely, so he told his crew to get
it up quickly and leave immediately.  Sure enough, according to English,
individuals with baseball bats came after members of his crew, though the
documentary does not show this actually happening.  English is also shown
being written up by a policeman for vandalizing a billboard.  Some of his
art works are bizarre, surreal, like the Marilyn Monroe work with Mickey
Mouse breasts:
