Beginning May 18, 2009, the Moscow Police Department and other law
enforcement agencies throughout the United States will step up efforts
to get drivers to buckle up.
Click It or Ticket is a nationwide enforcement campaign designed to
encourage all motorists to buckle up - every time. Our goal is to reduce
the number of fatal and serious injury crashes through enforcement,
education and high-visibility law enforcement.
According to NHTSA:
* In 2007 seat belts saved an estimated 15,147 lives. An
additional 5,024 lives could have been saved if seat belts were worn at
the time of the crashes.
* One in five Americans still fails to buckle up regularly.
* Employing safe driving practices, day and night, is the key to
keeping drivers, their passengers, and other motorists on our nation's
highways safe. A seat belt can mean the difference between life and
death.
The following are some of the violations which may result in a citation
being issued.
-Failure to fasten safety restraint, operator or occupant age 18 or
older: $10.00
-Failure to fasten safety restraint, operator 18 years or older with
occupant(s) under 18 years of age failing to wear safety restraint:
$10.00
-Failure to fasten safety restraint, operator under 18 years of age or
operator under 18 who has occupant(s) under 18 years of age failing to
wear safety restraint: $51.50
-Failure to restrain child in car safety seat: $69.00
