Former superintendentweighs in on school funding

Former state schools Superintendent Marilyn Howard says she’s “pretty much
kept my mouth shut and my eyes and ears open” since leaving office in 2006
after two terms. But in a guest opinion in the Idaho Statesman today, she
offered her ideas on how the state should help school districts cope with
the funding drop that’s accompanying the current economic downturn, which
include cutting strings on funding, a moratorium on new charter schools,
and trimming back state budget directions to essentials, leaving districts
to decide whether they do more.
