The following U.S. service members died while supporting combat operations in Iraq, confirmed by the Defense Department from January 9, 2009 through January 15, 2009:
 
Air Force Senior Airman Omar J. McKnight, 22, of Marrero, Louisiana; assigned to the 6th Security Forces Squadron, MacDill Air Force Base, Florida.
 
Marine Sgt. Marquis R. Porter, 28, of Brighton, Massachusetts; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
 
January 9, 2009 – January 15, 2009
Killed: 2; wounded in action: 26
 
March 19, 2003 – January 15, 2009 
Killed: 4,217; wounded in action: 30,960

Army Staff Sgt. Joshua R. Townsend, 30, of Solvang , California; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg , North Carolina.
