For Immediate Release:

Snow Load Level Increases

Moscow, Idaho, January 6, 2009 - URGENT - The City of Moscow Community
Development Department has estimated the current snow load weight as of
January 6, 2008 at 30 pounds per square foot. This is an increase of 4
pounds since yesterday's measurement of 26 pounds per square foot.

Please note that the roofs of older homes are usually rated to withstand
30 pounds per square foot, while a typical manufactured home roof is
rated at 25 pounds per square foot.

Given the current snow load and forecasted rain, those snow load weights
may continue to increase. Flat or low slope roofs especially, should
have snow removed. Citizens are asked to be aware of the amount of snow
on roofs, the potential for roof failure and take the necessary safety
precautions to keep snow loads at a safe amount.

For more information, please call the City of Moscow Building Official
Carol Alexander at 883-7022.
