The following U.S. service members died while supporting combat operations in Iraq, confirmed by the Defense Department from December 26, 2008 through January 1, 2009:
 
Army Pfc. Christopher W. Lotter, 20, of Chester Heights, Pennsylvania; assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. 
 
Army Pfc. Benjamin B. Tollefson, 22, of Concord, California; assigned to the Special Troops Battalion, 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas.

Killed: 2; wounded in action: 16
 
March 19, 2003 – January 1, 2009 
Killed: 4,211; wounded in action: 30,920
