Vice President Mues
The U.S. has declared a public health emergency because of rapidly
spreading Swine Flu. It is considered a potential pandemic threat.
The University urges all employees to pay attention to this virus and
take preventative steps, such as simple hygiene measures to stop its
progression. Faculty and staff also are encouraged to review near-term
travel plans that may take them to/through noted outbreak areas,
including Mexico.
While some non-U.S. cases are extreme and have resulted in death, U.S.
Swine Flu patients so far have experienced a milder form and have
recovered without medication. The virus is spread the same way as a
typical seasonal flu.
For further information pertaining to symptoms and preventative
measures, please watch for updates on the U.S. Center for Disease
Control (CDC) Web site: www.cdc.gov <http://www.cdc.gov> which also has
information on symptoms and warning signs.
