I don't know who Bear is, Donovan. But he reads the Bible carefully. I wish you would too.

Dear Donovan,
Bear is correct. You don't read the Bible very carefully, Bear does. Please read his comments again.
The Ten (not Two) Commandments did not come from Jesus, in the New Testament; they came direct from God, in the Old Testament. And they are not the same.
As for slavery, it is not condemned anywhere in the entire Bible, both Old and New Testaments, by either God, Jesus or anyone else. That is "the big picture," as you call it. Slavery is in the context of everything we read in the Bible. Or, as Doug Wilson would put it, Slavery is biblical. I agree with Doug.
Donovan, I think you're trying to discredit the Bible by making false claims about it.

OK Bear,
You asked, I showed you where it was written. You believe whatever you want to believe. If I cannot convince you that Jesus said to love thy neighbor, not beat him, so be it. It makes no difference to me as slavery no longer exists and you are not being rational or able to look at the big picture. You just want to take little pieces of the Bible, take them out of context, distort their meaning in order to try and discredit the book and religion. You will not be successful, but you are welcome [to] waste your time trying.
Best Regards,
Donovan

Donovan,
YOU are wrong! NONE of the TEN COMMANDMENTS say that.
The discussion was in regard to the TEN COMMANDMENTS. Matthew 22:34-40 does NOT list
the Ten Commandments as they are known to all of the world and those that read the bible,
except YOU of course.
First, Matthew 22:34-40 is not a listing of the Ten Commandments, the lists known as the
Ten
Commandments are given in passages in two books of the Bible: Exodus 20:2-17, Exodus
34:11-27 and Deuteronomy 5:6-21.
Second, depending on which religion/denomination (Jewish,
Anglican,Reformed,Orthodox,Catholic, Lutheran or other Christian, the Second Commandment
regards the following: You shall have no other gods before me; or, You shall not make for
yourself an idol; or, You shall not make wrongful use of the name of your God. Nowhere in
any list of the TEN COMMANDMENTS is there a "cliff note version" that reduces the Ten
Commandments down to two!
Have a nice day
