[Vision2020] Another failure to communicate

I ran a couple of searches on Dale's blog search feature, one with 'ugly wife' that had 2 hits of which neither referenced Dale's wife and a second search of just 'ugly' which had several hits but again nothing I could find with comments posted referencing Dale's wife. However, there is a post from Dale title 'Ugly, Troubled Women?' which has some pretty viscous comments aimed at so-called Intoleristas.

Dale is a funny guy posting propaganda on his blog and deluding himself into thinking that his blog is '#1 Most Influential Political Blog in Idaho'
http://right-mind.us/blogs/blog_0/archive/2008/04/24/59600.aspx

When Dale writes below that 'there are still posts out on Right-Mind from local intoleristas that say how ugly my wife is' I'm guessing you really can find some trace of this somewhere on his site if you dig for it. And if my memory serves correct, although I'm not going to spend any more time looking for this, what started the whole thing was Dale's post complete with glowing photos of his idea of beautiful conservative women (Ann Coulter, etc.) contrasted to his idea of ugly liberal women shown in very unflattering photos (Susan Estrich, etc.) followed by an exchange of comments. Carl Westberg writes about the tastelessness of Dale's post. Dale responds still holding his opinion that this is all a great gut busting joke. Carl reiterating that joking about someone's physical appearance is reprehensible and the post should be pulled. Some 20 year old immature guy chiming in with a comment along the lines 'Have you seen your wife lately?' and then very quickly apologizing for his tasteless joke in a subsequent post. And my oh my, how suddenly unfunny the the response (note: not Dale's original post) becomes to Dale and how quick he is to point out (now on multiple occasions) this 'injustice'. In the spirit of Doug Wilson, Dale can justify his own bad behavior and yet when something similar to what he has dished out is thrown back at him - even in a similar joking form - and then quickly retracted with an apology, this is now amazingly a completely different situation.

Priceless.

This
morning many V2020 readers were repulsed when reading Chris Witmer’s
tasteless remarks. Witmer is an ex-pat who lives in Japan and attends the Tokyo
version of Christ Church. He is a frequent contributor to Dale Courtney’s
blog and can be counted on to kiss Doug Wilson’s ass on a regular basis
over at Blog and Mablog. Interestingly, he also blog-stalks pregnant
Kirker’s and offers inaccurate medical advice related to pregnancy and
birth: he does not appear to have actual medical training but he has that abiding
interest in topics gynecological that characterizes many Kirk men. In
short, he is a creepy, socially inappropriate, self-important, sophomoric thinking
Ayn Rand admirer, who could only feel successful in a culture that
theoretically supports the notion of patriarchy. Generally
speaking, he deserves to be ignored.

However,
I did email Dale Courtney to ask about Witmer’s post. I offer the
following exchange of emails as an example of how difficult it is to arrive at
the truth when communicating with elders of Christ Church.

Hi
Dale,

According
to V2020 this morning Chris Witmer posted an especially tasteless

joke
about Barack Obama on Right-Mind. However, I don't find it.

Did
you pull it?

Rose

Reply from Dale: sent this afternoon at 5:21

Rose,

I
never pull anyone's comments unless they are libelous/slanderous.

Hence,
there are still posts out on Right-Mind from local intoleristas that say how
ugly my wife is.

Bottom
line: if someone writes a tasteless comment, I don't delete them. Ever.

Best,

Dale

My Response to Dale

Sent: 7:51 pm

Dale,

I
have never condoned or participated in ridiculing any innocent bystanders
(including spouses or minor children) in the on-going culture wars (your term
not mine) in Moscow, and you know it. That post was disgraceful. I
have never been able to figure out why you would retain it. Clearly, your
understanding of protecting your family and headship runs a poor second to
defending free speech, regardless of how hurtful or obnoxious the remark might
be. I find that a rather curious position for a Christian, not to mention
a church officer, but that’s just me, I guess.

Nonetheless
the waters are slightly muddy here. If you never pull anyone’s comment
unless they are libelous/slanderous, how do you explain the following email?

Keely,

Thanks for writing me. I checked with Dale on it, and he pulled the post down,
which is good.

So, Dale, help me out here. Did you pull the
post and send Witmer into the nether reaches of the internet (as he so richly
deserves), or is Doug just being puckish and joshing with Keely?

As ever,

Rose
