[Vision2020] Diverse teachings

If a college student is naive enough to so easily hand over their vote, they perhaps, should not be entrusted with a vote.

I think people, on campus especially, should be discussing how we should vote and the reasons why. The only thing I would be alarmed about is if a professor or employer threatened a student or employee if they didn't vote a certain way, or showed favoritism to a student or employee for sharing their political beliefs.

We should not fear, but rather embrace, freedom of speech, and the opportunity to express those beliefs amongst each other without fear of reprisal against our health, jobs, or well being for expressing those ideas, no matter how wrong or right they may be.

And just for the record, you don't vote for President. You vote for a set of four electors that swear they will cast their votes for either John McCain or Barack Obama because we are still unqualified to directly elect a President according to our lawmakers.

Best Regards,

Donovan

While I believe 100% that this is indeed what students are telling
you, I don't believe that the students are being entirely honest.
First, because professors aren't stupid, and they know the risk to
their continued employment that such an allegation carries. Most
profs are erring on the side of caution. Second, because with youth
comes a tendency to exaggerate, to make the story more juicy.
Sometimes this comes with middle and old age, as well, but it is
especially common amongst the young. Third, because I am on campus
for nearly 12 hours a day, and I keep track of the scuttlebutt.
Students attach names to stories that are really provocative,
providing they have firsthand knowledge that it is true. The only
whispers that I have heard have been of the friend-of-a-friend
variety, and even these were concerning unspecified TAs.

Just my 2 cents worth.
