The Boat
I inherited a boat today
Not a big boat, mind you
But I sailed it around the world
Several times
In the bathtub as a child
It came in a box
Packed in Styrofoam peanuts
Taken from it's place
On Grandpa's wall
Made of plastic with faded yellow sails
It's sheets are brittle and need repair
But the tiller and rudder, they still turn
Her lines are still sleek from bow to stern
She'd sail I'm sure
Around the world, one bath at a time
With a grandfather teaching the finer points
Of tacking, jibing and heeling
In a sea of bubbles
Lessons taken to sea
On the little boat's big sister
Hull slicing through the waves
Riding the wind, water hissing on her hull
Leaving a trail of bubbles
She's an old boat, with a galley full of memories
Waiting patiently upon a wall
Until it's time again
For a grandfather and grandson
To sail the world
In a bathtub full of bubbles
