This reminds me more of Project Lemonade,  in which "participants got
pledges from many people to donate money to civil rights groups... for
each minute Aryan Nations marched."

No muddying the  waters here, but a clever fundraising tactic.

Granted, sending a card telling her that the donation has been made in
her honor is a bit sophomoric.
