The University of Idaho WomensWorks Holiday Art
Fair features over 45 women artists from around the Pacific Northwest
region. Every year, the U of I Student Union Ballroom is transformed
into a magical, festive landscape of jewelry, handmade cards and
prints, beadwork, fiber art, pottery, stained glass, candles, soaps,
hand-blown glass, handmade paper journals, quilts, and more. In
addition to being able to peruse a dazzling variety of artwork and
crafts by local women artists, shoppers will be able to enjoy delicious
international dishes, homemade desserts, and baked goods prepared by
student groups and independent caterers. Live instrumental holiday
music will be provided by local musicians, and raffles of
artist-donated items will take place throughout the fair.
HISTORY

Originally started by local raku potter Rebecca Rod – who is
still producing art, but is now also the Program Advisor for the LGBTQA
Office on campus – the event has grown from a small, four-person show
in the old Women’s Center building on the U of I campus, to a a two-day
extravaganza of quality arts and crafts, international food, and live
music. Admission to the fair is by donation, but we encourage you to
give what you can. Every little bit counts! All proceeds from WomensWorks,
including shopper and artist donations and raffle ticket sales, will
benefit our Betsy Thomas Gender Equity scholarship fund. Look for
coupons in local newspaper print ads for a free raffle ticket or $1.00
off at any food booth!

LOGISTICS

Location: The International Ballroom of the Student Union Building, 6th & Deakin, University of Idaho, Moscow, Idaho.

Parking: Parking on campus is free on Saturdays! On
Friday, shoppers who need on-campus parking may obtain a visitor’s
permit and campus parking map from the University’s Parking Services office.

VENDOR INFORMATION

If you are a woman artist or food vendor, and would like to be invited to participate in WomensWorks 2008, please e-mail Lysa Salsbury at wcenter at uidaho.edu. Please note that all work sold must be original and handcrafted.
We do not allow any commercial or mass-produced products, catalogue
crafts, kits, imports, or art/crafts that rely heavily on machine
processing for their creation. One or two rare exceptions are made for
artistic, philanthropic projects that directly benefit the lives and
well-being of women. Important: the artist/crafter must be present and
attend her booth on both days of the fair.

Please note that the Women's Center reserves the right to decline participation of any artist whose work we feel:

(1) does not comply with the guidelines detailed above;

(2) is deemed either unoriginal or offensive in nature;

(3) does not meed our standards for quality;

(4) is already heavily represented by other registered vendors.

During these challenging economic times I think it is more
important than ever to support community based businesses this holiday season.  Of
course, BookPeople is  every ones first choice for reading, gift wrap,
cards, blank journals, and sundry stationary needs.

 I’d also suggest a visit to Crossroads Nursery
for a sensory extravaganza.  I’ve blogged about it and included
photos http://cleaning-house.org
(I’m not trying to get blog hits and my photos do not do justice to the
gorgeous staging and wide selection of items.  There is something for every
budget, but the presentation alone is worth the short trip out there.)

I’m looking forward to reading other folks suggestions.
