Chas,

You don't have to buy it, but it is true. We are trillions of dollars in debt. If we are to feed millions of others, educate them, and provide medical care for them, then we would be in even greater debt. Individual families cannot even afford to provide medical care for their own families, if they adopted another child, they would be declaring bankruptcy.

I do believe we could afford to take care of other people in their countries with their standards of living, but certainly not in our country with our high standard of living. Our communities are hurting for dollars for education and medical care, not to mention affordable housing.

You speak as though we can individually lower out cost of living, which we cannot. My car, housing, food, medical is expensive, and takes every dollar I have.

  Best Regards,

  Donovan

I don't buy this. USians are more comfortable than most other humans
on the earth. In the US in 2006, money spent on ADVERTISING reached
over $153 billion, which is more than the entire GDP of most nations.
The entire GDP of Singapore, for example -- the 45th richest nation on
earth -- was $161 billion (2007 IMF figures).

US companies spent only slightly less than that trying to convince
USians to buy Mountain Dew and potato chips.

I'm poor, by US standards. If not for the kindness of someone on this
list, I recently would have endured extreme financial difficulty. I
understand poverty. But I'm rich compared to most in the world, and I
am grateful daily for being so lucky.

Chas
