Although I agree with you, Ellen, that a large portion of that $700,000
was to be used in paying for operations, at least half of it was to be
applied for living expenses she would incur over the remainder of her life.
You see. The accident left her permanently brain damaged so extensively
that she could not understand what an Army officer was telling her, six
days after her operation, when her only son was killed in Iraq, a fact
that must be retold to her time and time again every time she asks for her
son.
