Sam,

  I would prefer not to break my toilet, which is very possible if you try to bend the mechanical components of the toilet in a way they are not designed to operate. Bricks do stack better, but they cost money and can bleed red into the toilet. Rocks are free, and easy to remove if you sell the house or toilet.

  Best Regards,

in 1969, before the first Earth Day, it was BRICKS that were advocated for displacement
of water in the water closet of the toilet, not rocks. Maybe it was because (red) bricks
had a convenient size, stacked more neatly, and were readily purchasable in suburban
and metro areas?

Anyway, bending the rod downwards, the rod connecting the float and the ball-cock valve,
is a lot easier than bricks, if you can bend it far enough without it breaking or interfering with the flush
valve.

Or, instead of putting rocks in your toilet's reservoir, you can simply adjust the trigger arm (that thingamajig with a big plastic bubble at the end of it) so that it terminates water refill sooner. [Either that or leave the Christmas tree up year-round . . . Shorter walk to the john, you understand.] It certainly beats putting rocks in your toilet. Tom Hansen Moscow, Idaho

You know, you can create a half flush toilet simple by placing rocks in

your toilet tank equal to 1/2 the volume of the tank.

       Ellen, what did your daughter do with the old toilet?          Best Regards,         Donovan    Ellen Roskovich <gussie443 at hotmail.com> wrote:        .hmmessage P  {  margin:0px;  padding:0px  }  body.hmmessage  {

I was so impressed with them I bought one for my daughter for her Christmas present last year. Made sense to me. . . . she's on a septic system where she lives and she's conserving a valuable natural resource with every half-flush. The Natural Abode is a great shop with very helpful staff to answer all your questions. Check it out if you haven't already.

   Ellen A. Roskovich P.S. I also have to put a plug in for the City of Moscow's Water

Dept. . . they have some great free gadgets for the homeowner who wants to save water. The young lady who works there was so nice putting together a bunch of stuff for me. . . .for my bathroom, kitchen and garden. Check them out, too.

purchase a front load washer. It may be the best investment we have ever made. Immediately, we have seen our household water usage cut in half without instituting any other water saving measures. Now we are looking forward to what else we can do. -Tom
