My comment:
NASA's James Hansen, director of the Goddard Institute for Space Studies,
was interviewed on NPR today regarding his scientific research, efforts to
educate the public about climate change, and the political and economic
forces working against him. A controversial and often attacked figure for
this outspoken stance that anthropogenic climate change is a serious
problem, based on solid science, his testimony before the US Senate 20 years
ago has for the most part been vindicated by the evidence for anthropogenic
climate change uncovered by the research of the global climate science
community in the past 20 years:
Text below from the URL at the top of the page, which also includes links to
Realplayer or Windows Media Player streaming audio of this NPR interview:
On the 20th anniversary of his groundbreaking global warming testimony
before the U.S. Senate, James Hansen discusses his belief that the planet is
dangerously close to tipping points that would be extremely difficult to
reverse. The NASA climate scientist reflects on what has and hasn't changed
in two decades, political pressures, and the controversy he's stirred by
speaking out.
