Sue,

"Donovan, I disagree. I find Mormons have a lot of fun poking fun at themselves. One of the funniest events I ever attended was a Salt Lake City teachers' meeting where the evening's entertainment was a fellow who traveled the LDS Church circuit with a hilarious monologue based on Mormon traditions"

You are welcome to disagree. I however, think that attacking a person's gender, sexuality, religion, family, race, economic status, or disability are all distasteful.

First, I think the context of your example and the one in this media presentation is very different, this was done by a person attempting to discredit someone because of their faith and to cause them harm on a non-related job issue. His faith doesn't disqualify him for the job, which is what this presentation was attempting to do. This was not done for and by Mormons for entertainment purposes only, as your context was made.

Second, a person's ability to defend or not defend themselves from such attacks is not what is at issue. Gays, Lesbians, most individuals with disabilities, women, Blacks, Hispanics, and other minorities are more than capable of defending themselves. That does not excuse people from bashing them and stating they are disqualified from serving in a position because of difference.

You may believe that discrimination and ridicule of a person for their religion is OK, but I do not.

  Best Regards,

  Donovan

One of the funniest events I ever attended was a Salt Lake City teachers' meeting where the evening's entertainment was a fellow who traveled the LDS Church circuit with a hilarious monologue based on Mormon traditions--the one I remember was the Mormon women work at crafting clusters of grapes in resin for table decorations. But there were others touching on polygamy, garments, etc. I'm willing to bet you, most LDS folks weren't nearly as offended as you were, and they can take up for themselves anyway.

  This is disgusting Hansen!

I really would think that a person such as yourself who claims to be liberal would find this kind of media poking fun at millions of people's religious faith as intolerable.

You know, there are millions of good people that are Mormons in the country, and while I might not agree with all the points of their faith, poking fun at them for their faith is unAmerican, prejudiced, very discriminatory, not to mention arrogant.

I think you owe all the Mormons and their friends on this list an apology for promoting this kind of negative campaigning as acceptable.

And as if you couldn't find something else to dog on Romney as to have to shoot below the belt and go for his faith. Do you not realize that this hurtful to all Mormons when you promote this garbage?

  Best Regards,

  Donovan

Sing along . . .

(to the tune of "Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah" by Allan Sherman)

Hello Hillary, Hey Giuliani
Here I am with President Romney
How he won this was a riot
Newsweek caught you two in bathrobes at the Hyatt

Mitt says our land needs reformin'
'Cause it's not completely Mormon
So protesters must speak softly
And the War on Drugs now targets tea and coffee

For his talks with dignitaries
Mitt just sends the missionaries
And state dinners - gee, they're mellow
All the heads of state bring casserole and Jell-o

Heads on Rushmore - you would dig 'em
Mitt just sculpted Brother Brigham
And the anthem needed switchin'
So it's now "I Hope They Call Me on a Mission"

Oh my word
He got elected
Oh my gosh
How unexpected
'Cause he's quite
Distinctly male and white
Despite
His V.P. Gladys Knight

Oh my heck
The far right trounces
Mormon lives
So Mitt renounces
Plural wives
But deep down they're OK
As long as none are gay

Now I don't know where we're headin'
But it might be Armageddon
So you sinners better move it
'Cause we're in the latter days and Mitt will prove it

I must meet the Elders' Quorum
At the White House here in Orem
So I'll run now - this is awesome
We'll be swearing in Chief Justice Donny Osmond!
