[Vision2020] Bursting water mains

Well, thanks for the info on sales tax but I didn't say anything about that
because this is not news to me. But if you feel better OK by me! I believe
that as a city grows more taxes are collected by a wider base and that would
be good for the city as a whole and perhaps...just perhaps some property tax
could be relieved. I know it is more complicated than that but I would like
to see some new business in town and something besides another coffee shop.
Moscow is not exactly a destination location we are more on the way to
somewhere and thats not all bad but to stay here there must be options.
Thanks tho I enjoyed all the comments.

Pat,
I wish to disagree with you on this one.
It seems like most of the new business growth goes into buildings
that were built and paid for by tax money (alturas, business
incubator, east side marketplace, even the old tidyman's)--and the
money they pay that would be property taxes normally, is actually
applied toward paying off the cost of the building--not going into
city coffers to pay for infrastructure. The people who are so-called
"pro business" anti Moscow city interference actually LOVE to accept
tax money to get them started--but then hate it if the people want to
regulate them or put any constraints on them.
I still maintain that those businesses end up leaving US holding the
bag on infrastructure. Think about the new urban redevelopment agency
for the silos---they want THEIR sewers/water mains to be updated to
bring them up to date WITH TAX MONEY--but they won't be paying into
the coffers to repair the water mains farther up 6th st. Pretty
selfish. And if you mention sales tax, I'll just have to chuckle--cuz
the sales tax goes to the state and is reapportioned--we never get it
all back.
cordially,
cynthia
