[Vision2020] Friday Fireworks

M-
in answer to your question, yes, a local fireworks display would help bring the community together.
let's take this another step further...
given that many people in this area go to Pullman for their fireworks/music/food and given that the Moscow fireworks have stopped due to lack of interest and funding, is an effort to reignite (so to speak) this Moscow fireworks proposal likely to work?
If you care deeply, go for it. But it is not easy to gather a bunch of volunteers and to raise $15,000 for a big fireworks show.
My personal feeling is that I enjoyed watching the fireworks, (the UI fireworks at homecoming on 10/13 were great) but I still think the amount of work and money needed for a July 4 community fireworks event would be better used in building trails, completing parks, or any number of other community activities.

  Bill,

I took you as a man of loyal local principle. One that likes to buy local, ride bikes, enjoy our town, save on gas, etc. Isn't this what MCA is all about? Our town, Moscow Idaho.

So why would you or myself, for that matter, want to go to Pullman, spending my local dollars over there along with gas money. Wouldn't it be great if you could just venture down to Wicks field once again with friends and family, all for a mutual benefit of watching our donated money going up in a big colorful bang.

Wouldn't that help bring our town even more together?

  Matt

Why is it important for Moscow to duplicate the fireworks & live music & BBQ food available on July 4 just 8 miles away in Pullman?

      My suggestion;

Have a BBQ with games, and have MSD children act out scenes from the US History and the signing of the Declaration.

Get the city and county to match funds raised. Get private businesses to donate food and supplies in turn allow them to advertise at the event. Make it a MCA/GMA joined effort to supply the people power. And don't forget to have a raffle with door prizes. I would hold it that East City Park. Also invite bands for patriotic music. You can usually find volunteers through the UI Music Department.

      Best,

      Donovan

      Just a thought.

Hmmm. Maybe this is an opportunity for vision2020
people to put some action behind all the talk and
figure out a way to fundraise for fireworks for the
        4th? It's a nice community-building activity and
potential common ground for people to meet and greet
and put aside their DIFFERENCES and be a community for
        a few hours.

Didn't the firefighters traditionally spearhead this?
Anyone have contacts with anyone that used to organize
fireworks? If tiny little Elk River can work up the
fundage to have fireworks, why can't Moscow?
