Fire damages Hahn Rental in Moscow

November 29, 2007, 9:57 am

MOSCOW - A building housing Hahn Rental Center was extensively damaged
in a fire that apparently started late Wednesday night in Moscow.
Palouse Country Sports, located in an adjacent building with a common
wall, also suffered smoke damage, said Joe Williams, fire marshal and
division chief with the Moscow Volunteer Fire Department.

Fire crews arrived at 11:23 p.m. Wednesday at 222 N. Main St., within
three minutes of being called out, and spent an hour and 40 minutes
getting the blaze under control, Williams said.

They entered through a back garage door because they could not gain
access to the fire through the front entrance. "The fire was primarily
in the rear of the building, but there was smoke damage in the front.
It's going to ruin whatever they had up there too and the roof collapsed
in the rear of the building," Williams said.

Firefighters believe the fire may have started in a shop area where a
truck was parked with tanks for servicing porta-potties, Williams said.

The truck and other equipment in the immediate vicinity was totally
destroyed, Williams said.
Investigators haven't yet identified a cause of the fire and damage
estimates were not available. A state fire marshal will be on scene
today to assist.
