How about a social contract (Constitution) and Judicial Branch that limits what the majority can force the minority to do, unalienable rights that cannot be voted away, even by a 9/10 majority? In cases of taxes, how about a limit of 50% of one's total earned wealth? How about an alternative MAXIMUM taxed limit so you got something left?

"Nobody has the right to hand-pick which laws they will abide by and which laws (or zoning codes) they will ignore, not even the minority."

They don't? So a slave has no right to freedom if the majority says he/she does not? You have no right to oppose the will of the majority that may wish to euthanize your wife or mother? How about infanticide, murder, or torture of animals? Are there no moral or ethical values which you see as being above the law written by humans?

Slavery in your view then, was right, and slaves had no right to object or flee their society created social roles handed to them by the vote of the majority?

  Interesting perspective, please elaborate Hansen.

  Best,

It is really very, very simple. The very foundation of our government is utilitarian in concept, the belief that most of the people know what is best for most of the people most of the time – rule by majority.

Nobody has the right to hand-pick which laws they will abide by and which laws (or zoning codes) they will ignore, not even the minority.
