Hi All;
Just got the following info from a good person/friend regarding helicopter
rules, etc. I'm passing it on in hopes it helps:
FAA Federal Aviation Administration regulations permit fixed-wing
aircraft to be operated at an altitude of 1,000 feet while flying over
congested areas and at an altitude of 500 feet above the surface in
other than congested areas, helicopters may be operated at less than the
minimums for fixed-wing aircraft "if the operation is conducted without
hazard to persons or property on the surface. In addition, each person
operating a helicopter shall comply with routes or altitudes
specifically prescribed for helicopters by the [FAA] Administrator." 14
CFR 91.79.
Idaho only regulates helicopter heights that carry tourists over scenic
areas (1500 ft) the state follows FAA requirements on all other matters.
That being said, chopper pilots who are carrying ag chemicals can be
fined for being under the 500 foot deck over residential neighborhoods.
Since this guy was not spraying then he would be alright.
J :]
