I will be unable to attend the first two days' competition. But, I will be
at this year's intercollegiate forestry club conclave (being held at UI's
Parker Farms complex) on Friday to snap a few shots and videos, especially
since my sister-in-law's grandson is competing for UI (Rodney Cochrane of
Wardner).

This Isn't Your Father's Axe Throw: University of Idaho Logger Sports Hosts
2007 American Western Forestry Club Conclave
Feb. 27, 2007
MOSCOW, Idaho - Axe throwing, pole climbing and other logger skills will be
demonstrated when the University of Idaho hosts an intercollegiate forestry
club conclave and annual logger sports competition. The event runs Wednesday
through Friday, March 14-16, at the University Logger Sports Facility,
located at the University Plant Science Farm off the Troy Highway. Events
open to public viewing run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
The conclave features men and women demonstrating professional natural
resource skills with axes and chainsaws, as well as other traditional and
contemporary logging equipment.
Crosscut sawing, timber cruising, horizontal and vertical chopping, and
power sawing are just a sampling of the additional activities slated for
this free event sponsored by members of the University of Idaho Logger
Sports Club.
"The interdisciplinary aspect unites students from several different fields
of study and teaches them teamwork, leadership, communications skills and
practical application," said Brian Austin, University of Idaho Logger Sports
Club adviser. "The longevity of the program is a testament to its value and
appeal to the student body and the community we serve."
The event draws participants from California Polytechnic State University,
University of Nevada-Reno, University of California-Berkeley, Humboldt State
University, Flathead Valley Community College, Central Oregon Community
College, Washington State University, University of Montana, Oregon State
University and University of Idaho.
STIHLR TIMBERSPORTSR Collegiate Series also will concurrently host a
competition at the site, featuring public events March 14. STIHL's
TIMBERSPORTSR collegiate competitions identify the top collegiate lumberjack
sports athletes from around North America and provide them with the
opportunity to advance in the sport internationally.
