REPUBLICANS: MORE DANGEROUS THAN AL-QAEDA

Several times a semester, Collegiate Reformed Fellowship
(student organization at the U of I), sponsors a worldview forum at the U of
I.
These forums are a presentation of the biblical worldview as it relates to a

controversial topic, with the public at large invited to participate with
questions and rebuttals during the open mic Q & A period.

Topic: *Why Republicans are More Dangerous Than Al-Qaeda: A Christian Take*
When: Wednesday, March 7, 2007, 7:30 PM
Where: UI SUB Silver/Gold rm.
Format: Lecture followed by open mic Q & A
Speaker: Douglas M. Jones

Douglas M. Jones is the editorial director of Canon Press, a senior editor
of
Credenda/Agenda, and a fellow of philosophy at New St. Andrews College.
He is co-author of Angels in the Architecture. Doug received an M.A. in
philosophy from the University of Southern California and an M.F.A. in
creative writing from the University of Idaho.

Speaker's synopsis:

Conservative evangelical Christians are supposed to fit nicely in the suit
pocket of the Republican party. But as Christians become more and more aware
of the rich implications of historic, Trinitarian reality, the antithesis
between Christian faith and opposing viewpoints becomes starker. This talk
examines several disturbing patterns of Republican behavior over the past
half-century in order to highlight the deeper worldview assumptions that
drive conservative Republicanism, a unitarian vision of power, secrecy,
anti-individualism, moralism, and permanent war, starkly at odds with
historic, Christian Trinitarianism.
Because conservative Republicanism is far more institutionalized and
mainstream, its threat is often invisible. Yet its danger and even
body-count far exceed that of international terrorism, a threat historically
funded and nurtured by Republican administrations.

All are welcome!
