Oh, dear . . . I was hoping the "certified professional mediator" Don Harter was different than the former UI Don Harter :-(((

For those who aren't aware, Don Harter actually man-handled a women he disagreed with at the "Town Hall Meeting" called by Christ Church in an unsuccessful attempt to explain away the moral repugnancy of "Southern Slavery as it Was" back in December, 2003. The deplorable incident was caught on video. Mr. Harter is lucky he picked on that petite woman rather than on me because I'd have had the physical & verbal bully arrested for that deplorable little stunt.

Don Harter is also the man who became so . . . disruptive during the original BOE Christ Church tax challenges that a LCSO representative removed him from the hearing:

"Since Friday's hearing was quasi-judicial, no public comment was allowed. But Moscow resident Don Harter tried to speak and was told by Stroschein he was out of order. A sheriff's deputy escorted him out of the meeting room in the Latah County Courthouse.

But earlier in the week Harter called the Lewiston Tribune to express his fear that New St. Andrews and Christ Church, of which he is not a member, were being unfairly persecuted because of their controversial views. He also said he feared that if the exemptions were overturned, the tax status of any church or affiliated school could be challenged.

"This is not a holy war," Harter said. "But it is the opening of a real war called an assessment war. Until you've been in an assessment war, you haven't been to war at all.""
[Lewiston Tribune; Commission mulls tax exemption case; Joel Mills; Saturday, July 10, 2004]

Both incidents, IMHO, are pretty darn bizarro for a man who bills himself as a "Certified Professional Mediator"! OTOH, I think both incidents may help shed some light on the rather unprofessional wording of the petition.

Oh -- FWIW, I have no idea what organization reportedly "certified" Mr. Harter as a "professional mediator," but it doesn't appear to have been Idaho Mediation Assocciation, Inc.:

Tom
Don Harter is a former UI Professor. He lives on 7th Street. Dortha Headrick lives on Blaine. She was a companion to Charlie Bower, a retired farmer from Kendrick, who recently died. He gave most of his estate to the Collage of Agriculture. Don can be reached at 882-3087. He would be glad to visit with you.

Maybe Gary still owns some rental property in Moscow, I don't know for sure. What about the others? Can you tell us something about the others? I am not signing anything drafted by people I know nothing about. I believe that, now, this suit needs to be decided on so that there is definitive case law on the books and then the Legislature can act accordingly. I believe it was Bruce Livingston who suggested a while back that the suit may be a good thing for this reason. I hadn't thought of it that way until then. Thanks Bruce!

Here is a petition available at four locations for people to sign if they would like to see this resolved asap. Lets not drag this out threw the court system and waste considerable time and money.
