Here I am, up in the mountains with my non-patriarchal family, trying to hang on to a very weak Internet signal, and I about fell off my lawn chair at the thought that Doug Farris would think that the following articles have anything to do with "women in control," much less with my response to Iverson's "women ruining the military" column. A coach of either gender molesting a student, any student, is not more problematic because the coach was a woman; that an Episcopalian priest can't decide if she's Christian or not is certainly lamentable, but I know of many people, most of them male, who are rebuked by their denominations for faulty theology. Yep, there appears in both women to be a deficiency any number of things, but I wouldn't dare presume that too much estrogen has crowded out character in the former case and intellectual honesty in the latter. I'll have more to say when I return, but I would caution the ineffably dense Mr. Farris that one who defends a church who has coddled men who have molested children ought not look so desperate trying to share the blame. The blame stems from what we would call "sin," Doug, and women and men both dip heavily into its well. And many thanks to those who have emailed me with their comments . . . keely"And these women that you spit on as they try to change their worlds/Are immune to your consultations . . . they're quite aware of what they're going through"(With apologies to David Bowie)> To: vision2020 at moscow.com> Date: Tue, 10 Jul 2007 01:20:25 -0400> From: heirdoug at netscape.net> Subject: [Vision2020] Women in Authority and Leadership!> > Here are a couple of stories about women in control to add to the > current discussion.> > > > > > > > > > From today's Spokesman Review.> > > > > > A former assistant varsity softball coach at Centennial High School > accused of having inappropriate sexual contact with a 16-year-old > female student in a public park in April pleaded guilty to a lesser > charge today.> > > > Lauren Palmer was initially charged with with felony sexual battery > of a minor.
