[Vision2020] Doug Farris: Sad News

Thank you Gary for providing cogent evidence that outrageous parody is still
an effective device for directing and continuing attention. As to the main
message of the parody found at the end, time will tell which of our
predictive outlooks is closer to reality.
However, I noticed two interesting omissions from your post:
1. You fail to criticize your ideologue-mate Farris for his scatological
references which have occurred at least twice, but have remarked upon mine
in the past no matter how direct, indirect, or oblique.
2. You have yet to respond with an opinion about Greg Dickison's chilling
presentation of Christ Church dicta referred to in the parody. When it was
first presented to you V 2020, you indicated that you might express an
opinion after you made some inquires. Have you made those inquires? Are
you going to give us the benefit of your opinion thereupon? Or is a direct
threat to most of the world's population a matter too trivial for your
attention?
You are to be complimented, however, that you, unlike apparently some
others, recognized the post you beleaguer as parody. Parody is sometimes
sharp, scandalous, profane, and skewering and when so certainly so not to
everyone's taste. [For a legal opinion and an interesting discussion of
parody See Hustler Magazine, Inc. et al. v. Jerry Falwell 485 U.S. 46
(1988) http://laws.findlaw.com/us/485/46.html, an United States Supreme
Court case.]
Since the parody at issue is part of a long running exchange on Vision 2020,
an exchange which includes much vitriol on all sides, anyone who would take
the parody or its title, given the author, as being the literal truth
perhaps needs to reassess their overall interpretive abilities. Those
offended are certainly entitled to their taste preferences, a matter over
which I have no control nor any desire to compel.
Just so that you don't misunderstand the words above: I read your's and
other's disapprobation. However, if you or they await an apology, you best
expend that time, likely to be of long duration, at your plying your
occupational craft, one at least at which you are quite competent.
