[Vision2020] Fwd: vision 2020 proposal

I tend to disagree with the proposal.

Why not simply continue "as is" and let the reader decide what to delete and
what not to delete (as it has been for the past six years or so)?

If we were to "adopt" this unofficial, unenforceable "policy", topic
categories would have to first be identified (i.e. Christ Church, Sports,
Political, Humor, etc.) along with their respective abbreviations (i.e. CC,
SP, POL, HUM, etc.). This would give birth to another question: Are we
restricted to those topic categories and their abbreviations.

Suppose I were to post a humorous comment concerning political assertions
possibly related to Christ Church playing softball on Wicks Field. Would
this posting be labeled CCSPPOLHUM or is it (like this proposal) just a
bunch of BS?

Actually, I think this is a great idea. I don't think it will fly, however.
Some folks on this list will
continue to repeat their favorite rant under all those headings, and those
whose opinions and
ideas are not heard will continue in their reluctance to post. Being flamed
is unpleasant, being
cyber stalked is even more unpleasant.

This list has, like any unmoderated list, dingbats, nasties, old lefties,
new righties, folks with
an immediate agenda, folks with a long-term agenda, crazoids, those with
true genius,
mentally and/or emotionally challenged, politicized people, religiosity,
racial bias, misguided
do-gooders, environmentalists, big business promoters, axe-to-grinders, and
CC apologists
and despisers. Sometimes it's fun, interesting, informative, provocative, or
exciting. Sometimes
it's annoying, boring, irritating, anger-making, offensive or just plain
weird. We all have bozo
filters, we all have a delete button, and most importantly we all have the
ability and opportunity
to put our ideas and opinions out there.

We all are able to decide what we want to read, to which posts we respond,
and who we wish
to offend or befriend. It's WONDERFUL. Indeed, there are posters I
personally wish would dry
up and blow away. Sometimes, these are folks on my side of the fence!

However, I think the posters with really egregious behaviour on the list
find fewer responses,
fewer people who are willing to engage, and eventually they go where they
have not yet been
seen to be looking only for a fight.

And, honestly, for most of us, I think we continue to be good folks with the
best for Moscow in
mind---we don't agree on what the best is, but render unto all of us some
darn slack. Don't take
yourself (or others) too seriously, because it's all transitory!

Best to almost all,
Debi R-S

Ted,
I still "don't know why" there isn't a blog or other
list solely dedicated to anti-CC/wilson info. I don't
know why more of the subscribers to this list don't
participate, but maybe it's causally related?) But it
is pretty obvious that I merely suggested people start
organizing posts with something in the subject line to
indicate it deals with christ church. That's not a
groundbreaking idea, many email lists do this. If
people don't want it to happen, FINE. If you want to
continue to nitpick my suggestion and accuse me of the
chilling crime of infringing on the right to free
speech, go for it.

Subject organization could look something like this:
CC: Wilson just did something!
Sports: Mariners sign a pitcher worth something! or
Vandals still suck!
UI: info about UI
LTE: Letters to the Editor 2/23/07
GOV: City Council meeting announced

it's just a little code followed by the subject line
you'd normally have. It's a suggestion, open for
discussion. It's not like I can singlehandedly crush
the operation of this list with my own little fist of
fury.
