[Vision2020] House Passes Bill Linking Tax Cuts, Minimum Wage

Paul,

Many people donate money to family members so that don't have to pay as high of taxes.
For example, if you make $100,000, give $10K away to three children over age 18, that puts you in the 70K bracket instead. Why do that? If you are single and make over $100K the government takes more than if you make $70K, like most of everything between $70-100K goes to the government, about 95% of that. I know other family members give away wealth while they are living in order to avoid the 50% estate tax their relatives would have to pay if they got it after they died.

to help provide for it's well-being?"

The rational are not objecting to being taxed. Most of your taxes don't go to those things you listed. About 70% of taxes are pretty much given away to welfare programs. Further, the government doesn't spend money wisely either, nor does it raise its revenue in an even and justified manner.

The government has become a pig, eating most of your paycheck. There is absolutely positively, no reason the government should be consuming 40% of what you produce. This government is a glutenous pig that needs to be weened, instead it is getting bigger and fatter. Remember, a government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take everything you have--and it will.

Are they talking about estate taxes? I'll have to read the bill in
question, I guess. It sounded from their little blurb that it was more
like a wealthy person "giving" money to a family member in a presumably
lower tax bracket and then having them "give" it back later. Maybe I'm
reading things into it, though.

They basically tax the movement of money, from what I've seen. I know
that nobody likes to pay taxes, but I do enjoy having a police
department, interstate highways, some means of defending our country
against a foreign invader, public access to information in libraries,
and probably hundreds of other benefits I'd likely be surprised to hear
are government-funded. Don't we have a duty as a citizen of our country
to help provide for it's well-being?
