Jerry,

That would be wonderful if it accepted medicaid patients. Generally speaking, medicaid doesn't cover the costs of caring for someone, income from private care patients is needed.

One problem with LHS is that we needed a higher ratio of private care residents. There are also facilities that make excuses not to take medicaid patients, saying it is for reasons "not related".

The other challenge is finding staff that will work for the wages that can be paid. CNAs and RNs are hard to pay and keep. Some places don't understand that Moscow is expensive, and tend to think employees can afford to work for the wages as provided for in other small Idaho and Washington towns.

But Jerry, if you could make it happen that Medicaid patients get to stay in Moscow, that would be giant good deed for many vulnerable adults in our community and their families and friends that visit them. PLEASE do keep me informed as to what is happening in this regard.

  Best,

  Donovan

Donovan, I had an extensive talk with Gritman folks today. A committee will be formed and I will be a member. Our goal is to work with nursing homes to bring skilled nursing--nursing home care to our community. The one that is most interested has 87 skilled nursing bed plus about another 120. If talks with the local care givers prove to be not fruitful, Gritman is committed to recruiting others. The Spokane nursing home has about 60% medicaid patients and thus serves indigents. I'll keep you posted. Jerry

My advice to all of you is to get private health insurance because otherwise you will moved out of town when you cannot take care of yourself anymore. Gritman ain't going to take you otherwise.

But the good news is the medical companies that will be occupying the new building won't pay rent or property taxes and the car dealership will be in Whitman County instead.

Best,

Donovan

   Thanks for posting these results.

My faith and confidence in the people of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Latah County has been reassured.

Although some people may have questioned whether or not Gritman would retain the LHS property for the purpose of health care, I feel (and I believe the remaining 68.78% of us who voted agree), it is extremely doubtful that a car dealership would have.
