Saundra writes:

"And, Jamin C. Wight isn't registered because his crime (felony injury to a
child) isn't one that requires registration as a sex offender."

Wight apparently admitted to having intercourse with someone under the legal
age of consent (one ten years younger than himself) over a period of more
than a year. Other unpublicized aspects of this situation would be more
shocking to the average citizen.

That Wight was allowed to plea bargain to a much lesser charge is a an
appalling disgrace to the county prosecutor William Thompson and those who
continued to vote for him, given the record of his office (especially after
the departure of the extremely competent Robin Eckmann) in making very soft,
almost gratuitous plea bargains.

If this community is serious about preventing child abuse, then it ought
stop ignoring these wrist slaps and demand more tough-minded investigations,
including the use of a magistrate's inquiry, and tough hard-nosed follow
through by the prosecutor.
