It is my stern opinion that a hat rack can be elected into public office in
Idaho provided the hat rack is a registered Republican.

Nicole Lefavour was elected to the Idaho state senate, becoming the first
openly gay person ever elected in the state:

She was interviewed the past few days in Boise for national news about the
Craig issue. I was happy to see this, given the reputation Idaho has around
the nation as a bigoted state.
However, don't expect an openly gay US Senator from Idaho to be elected any
time soon... Idaho passed a super DOMA by a wide margin in 2006. And Idaho
remains one of the most solidly "conservative" states in the nation, even
after the Blue Revolution in 2006.
