That was a momentous day indeed, although it happened 13 years before I was born. What's shocking is that up until about four years after I was born, men and women of Jackie Robinson's race were still forced in some places to drink from segregated water fountains, use segregated bathrooms, were legally barred from public accommodations at the whim of city fathers, and were discouraged from voting by poll taxes and "literacy" tests, primarily throughout the South.Fortunately, women and men of good will and moral courage refused to accept that the discriminated-against were happy and fulfilled in their place, and passionately challenged the idea that there was a necessary social strata from which the races, each secured in their own positions in the hierarchy, enjoyed harmonious and affectionate relationships with one another.Thank God no one teaches anything as ugly and stupid as THAT nowadays . . keely> From: thansen at moscow.com> To: vision2020 at moscow.com> Date: Sun, 15 Apr 2007 16:38:53 -0700> Subject: [Vision2020] A Late Tribute> > Greetings Visionaires -> > I held off posting this tribute hoping that it might originate from other> sources, either here on Vision 2020 or on the Moscow airwaves.
