Matt,
There was nothing in my post below that indicated that I disagreed with your
main point. I was merely trying to set the facts straight. Hopefully, we
can agree that it is better to discuss matters using facts than using
fictions.
I have no objection to who posts on V 2020 and would vigorously oppose any
rules, enforced or voluntary, which would limit participation by anyone
regardless of their geography, their points of view, or what names they post
under.
That said, there are some posters who habitually make up "facts", who
intentionally and by device do not respond to the arguments or comments in
the post they attack are making, and/or who continually demonstrate that
they lack fundamental reading and reasoning skills. It is fair game to
point this out.
As for the lack of civility, a trait which I often exhibit, this is a common
property of public discourse and one for which I offer no apology. I would
be willing to bet heavily that with out some incivility, the readership of
posts on this forum would decrease. It is human nature to enjoy certain
instances of incivility, especially if humorous and/or accurate. Incivility
which is enticing can also by increasing readership result in more interest
in an issue, and thus the increased probability of better informed
readership.
My personal view is that several of those posting from the conservative
point of view do no favors to other conservatives by the asininity of their
writings or their cowardly refusal to discuss the fundamental values and
beliefs which underlie their opinions. Lost in the sometimes near riots is
the fact that there are many issues which most of the so-called liberals and
most of the so-called conservatives are in near agreement -- the horrid
consequences and utter moral bankruptcy of child sexual abuse and the
fostering of same, for example.
