[Vision2020] Moscow's terrible sidewalks

The Transportation Commission has been working on this issue. We had  
a subcommittee that developed recommendations for the Council for  
both installing and maintaining a citywide network of sidewalks.

In terms of building new pathways, our first priority is making safe  
routes for kids walking to school (e.g. complete the sidewalk system  
on the East side of Mt. View between 6th & D). Then we would like to  
work having sidewalks on both sides of arterials and collector  
streets. After that, we would address the neighborhoods. Given the  
huge number of places that have no sidewalks and sidewalks in poor  
repair, this is a project that will take years.

As with most government projects, accomplishing the goals requires a  
political decision followed by planning and funding. I suggest anyone  
who knows places where sidewalks need to be build or repaired send a  
description (such as the one from Penny P.) to the Mayor AND members  
of the City Council, along with a request that sidewalks be put at  
the top of the City's priority list.
