[Vision2020] PERSI Update

[Tom Trail]

Legislation enacted in 2000 significantly improved the PERSI system.  Alan
Winkle, Director of PERSI, provided me with the following figures.

  1. Formula Change--the formula change provided 4.34% more in retirees
     benefit checks.  Since 2000 retirees have received $574,646,260 in
     in retirement benefits with the enhancement accounting for $24,882,183.

  2. Gain Sharing--Over 40,000 PERSI members with Gains Sharing accounts
     now totals $61,446,573.  The return on accounts this past year was
     $4.2 million.
