All:

Former Iraq weapons inspector and marine intelligence officer Scott Ritter
was interviewed Friday morning, October 20, on the Ray Taliaferro show on
KGO AM 810, and discussed his new book "Target Iran: The Truth About the
White House's Plans for Regime Change."

Ritter, now well known for his warnings prior to the invasion of Iraq that
the claims of WMDs in Iraq made by the Bush administration were seriously
doubtful, made a number of clear cut statements about the military
intentions of the US towards Iran, and the claims that Iran is developing
nuclear weapons.

He said he did not think the Eisenhower aircraft carrier group being
positioned near Iran before next months elections signals an October
surprise strike against Iran. According to Ritter, there is insufficient
staging of military assets to signal a pending attack.

However, Ritter did say he expects a push for the US to attack Iran in 2007,
and the title of his new book is explicit in its claims that the US intends
regime change in Iran. He also stated that even if the Democrats take
control of the US House, US attacks against Iran may still proceed.

He also stated that the facts do not indicate with certainty that Iran is
seeking to develop nuclear weapons.

Below are links to an audio file (yes, it works, I'm listening to it now via
RealPlayer, which indicates a length of 1:27:52) of a compelling discussion
(not from the KGO radio interview) between Seymour Hersh and Scott Ritter
presented by The Nation Institute, Cosponsored by The New York Society for
Ethical Culture, Democrats.com, and the Public Concern Foundationon, on
Ritter's new book "Target Iran: The Truth About the White House's Plans for
Regime Change:"

Republicans are going after gays. Well, some of them. Others are in denial
about queer folks in the party at all. Still others really want the GOP to
get to discussing smaller government, or scaling back the war in Iraq, or
taking a tougher stance with another "evil" country... it's an identity
crisis <http://www.kgo.com/goout.asp?u=http://www.latimes.com/news/printedition/front/la-na-iraqpol20oct20,1,3627800.story?coll=la-headlines-frontpage>and
the GOP should do some soul searching to figure
out what they're
about<http://www.kgo.com/goout.asp?u=http://www.nytimes.com/2006/10/20/us/politics/20conserve.html?hp&ex=1161403200&en=f75af82c63e1ce7e&ei=5094&partner=homepage>...

While they do that, Americans have figured out just how smarmy and
disjointed the GOP is, so they'll be voting for the
Dems<http://www.kgo.com/goout.asp?u=http://thinkprogress.org/2006/10/19/civil-war-iraq/>.
